Owlet launches Cam 2, which is not just a camera or monitor, but so much more. Here you will quickly learn 7 important features - and maybe a few more. Below you will find the most common questions with answers. Let's go.
What does Cam 2 offer compared to other cameras on the market?
Owlet Cam 2 records video clips when sound, movement, or crying is detected in your child's room. Additionally, Cam 2 offers background noise mode, 4x zoom, it reads the room's temperature and humidity, and has a wall mounting kit specifically designed for your child to sleep safely. Cam 2 integrates seamlessly with Smart Sock in the Owlet app for a complete overview of your baby.
How long do you have access to the video clips?
The video clips remain in the Owlet Care app for seven days. From there, you can save the clips to your device and share them with loved ones. But remember that after seven days, the clips are automatically deleted and cannot be restored.
Which version of Smart Sock works with Cam 2?
All versions of Owlet Sock are compatible with Owlet Cam 2 in the Owlet Care app.
What is meant by 'background noise'?
That you can hear the sound from your child's room in the background while you are watching other apps, browsing, writing, shopping, or even when you lock the phone. This way, you ensure that nothing escapes you even when you need to do other things!
Does the background noise continue even if I watch Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.?
No, if you open an app that uses your mobile device's sound, it will override the background sound, but the camera sound will return when you are done.
Is Cam 2 better than Cam 1?
Cam 2 has the same backend structure as Cam 1, but with even more love! Customers still enjoy the features they liked with Cam 1, but now we also offer video clips and cry notifications via the Owlet Care app. Together, these features help parents learn their child's behaviors and needs as they grow.
What are the differences between Cam 1 and Cam 2?
Cam 2 offers smarter notifications with cry detection, and video clips for crying, sound, and movements. Additionally, Cam 2 measures the room's humidity and has even more secure transmission technology.
What is the difference between a sound and a cry notification?
Cry detection is Owlet's first smart alert that specifically notifies you when the baby is crying, unlike all other types of sounds that may occur in the baby's room. By distinguishing between 'sound' and 'crying', parents are helped by Cam 2 to determine if the baby is just a little fussy or needs help falling back asleep. Just like adults, babies usually don't start crying right away either. When parents know with the help of Cam 2 what type of sound is heard in the room, they also know if something is wrong with the baby or if it's just normal baby noises. With Cam 2, you have the ability to adjust the settings according to your needs. If you receive too many alerts (or too few) based on your baby's sounds, you can adjust the sensitivity level to specifically match your family's needs.
Can I display two or more cameras in the app?
Good question! You can link multiple cameras to one account in the Owlet Care app. To do this, you should set up a separate child profile for each camera in your account and then assign a child profile to each camera. You should note that you cannot view live video from multiple cameras simultaneously, but you can switch between profiles to see them.
Do employees at Owlet have access to my videos? (or streams)
No, to preserve the integrity of Owlet's customers, the employees at Owlet do not have access to customers' video clips. The camera's video clips can only be accessed through your account in the Owlet Care app, which only you and those you share it with, such as your partner or nanny, have access to. The video clips are saved for seven days and then automatically deleted. So don't forget to save the clips of your laughing baby!
Do you need to pay extra for the app?
Owlet Care app is completely free!
Can I control the camera's position from the app?
The camera and its mount use a strong magnet that can be manually adjusted to different angles. Easily reposition your camera by hand to get the best view of your child. Currently, the Owlet app does not offer the ability to rotate or tilt the camera remotely. However, it is a good idea that we will bring up with the product team for future versions!
What does secure and encrypted Wi-Fi mean?
Cam 2 has AES 128-bit encryption, which is a level that is widely accepted as secure.
How does night vision work?

Cam 2 provides video clips and push notifications when sound, movement, or crying is detected in the baby's room. Owlet Cam streams HD video (1080p) with night vision and two-way audio to your smartphone via a Wi-Fi connection so parents can hear and see their baby wherever they are.
Is Wi-Fi required to use the Smart Sock? What happens if my Wi-Fi stops working?
The Smart Sock and base station connect via Bluetooth. The base station then connects to your phone via Wi-Fi to give you an overview of your baby's readings. Wi-Fi is required if you want to use the Owlet Care app to view these readings or sleep information as well as expert tips. If your Wi-Fi is not working, the base station will alert you with a warning when your baby needs help.

The camera can be used with up to four smartphones simultaneously.
Can I change 1080P HD?
Yes, you can! The camera can stream up to 1080p, but when the video quality is set to 'Auto', it will automatically choose the most suitable solution to ensure a consistent video and audio stream. We recommend keeping the 'Auto' setting for the camera as it allows it to automatically select the best video quality based on the strength and bandwidth of your Wi-Fi.
Will this work with twins or multiple children?
